Technical computing includes numerical computation, symbolic computation, graphics, programming, and presentation. Mathematica is the leading software in this field. It is used in research, development, and in teaching. Mathematica includes many built-in functions and a fully programmable interface.
This one-day course gives an overview over Mathematica with many examples from various application areas. Practical information about the program and a discussion of the literature (there are now well over 200 books about Mathematica) and electronic information are also part of the seminar. Students will be capable of judging the suitability of Mathematica for solving their problems and will be able to perform their own simple calculations in Mathematica.
Each new version brings many enhancements and new features. The differences to previous versions will be discussed briefly.
The instructor is one of the developers of Mathematica and has used
it in teaching and research.
He has over ten years of teaching experience with Mathematica,
at universities and in industry.
He published several books about Mathematica and is a regular author
for the Mathematica Journal.
After several years as professor of computer science at ETH Zurich
he is now the founder and owner of the consulting company MathConsult.
This course is offered also in German.
